Wednesday 08 February 2023

We’re super excited to announce that world-renowned animal behaviourist and trainer Mark Vette will be joining us at this year’s Doggy Day Out! Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s much-loved ‘dog event of the year’ is back for 2023 at Ōmokoroa Sports Ground. Pop Saturday 25 February, 10am-1pm in your calendars dog lovers!

With over 40 years’ experience training dogs, Mark Vette will be sharing his knowledge and techniques to Doggy Day Out goers. You and your four-legged friend can join him for topics such as the puppy years, building a bond with your dog and some general training tips and tricks.

“I always love to take an opportunity like this to engage with the community - a wonderful day celebrating the incredible and unique relationship between people and their dogs. As well as supporting the role of Council in keeping our communities well educated and safe,” says Mark.

Compliance and Monitoring Manager Dougal Elvin is thrilled to have such a massive dog legend coming to the Doggy Day Out.

“When you think of dog training in Aotearoa, you think of Mark, so we know everyone will get a lot out of his talk, and we’re really looking forward to seeing his skills in action!

“As well as putting on an epic event for dog owners, the Doggy Day Out is also about showcasing the fantastic work our animal services team does – from training and education to adoptions and fostering,” says Dougal.

In addition to Mark Vette’s presentation, Doggy Day Out will feature agility demonstrations from Mount Maunganui Dog Training Club, training tips from our awesome animal services officer Betty Hall, dog-related market stalls, plus loads of fun whānau friendly entertainment.

The theme this year is ‘superdogs’, so dress your pooch in their best superhero costume and be in to win some cool prizes! The dress up comp will be judged by Mark Vette and Council’s CEO John Holyoake.
